Early in 2009, Dixon High School, along with Dixon Middle School and 10 other North carolina schools became involved in a plan to connect these schools with similar schools in the Jiangsu Province in China.  The Center for International Understanding which has established several partnerships with other international schools and schools in Onslow County, set up this new endeavor for our schools.  The plan is to establish a continuing partnership between our students, teachers, and administrators.  We are trying to expose our community to the language and culture of a huge international player that has a tremendous wealth of knowledge and history to share with us.  Tolerance and understanding, both ways, is a huge expectation from both schools.

Chinese partnerships are a new endeavor for the Center and Onslow County Schools.  Dixon accepted this new challenge because they wanted to find out more about another global leader and to see how our students could benefit from understanding new friends.  Onslow County and North Carolina can learn an amazing amount from a country with over 5000 years of history and culture.  As technology and information sources make our world smaller and more and more interdependent everyday, it becomes more and more necessary to understand others, from all over the world.

In June, 2009, Principal John Shannon and Coordinator Ennett Carter traveled to Shuyang High School in eastern China and met with Principal Liu and Coordinator Yang.  The experience has given them a small taste of what is in store for our schools.  The trip was unbelievable and has opened the door for new connections between our two schools.

Please read the "Why China" document in the "Files" section and spend a few minutes looking over our weekly lessons being taught in our Seminar classes.  They offer a very brief overview of China with the hope of building an understanding and increased interest in China.

Please check back often to find updates and information about our new partnership.

Welcome to our Chinese Partnership.
